Expenser is a personal expense tracking application designed to help users track their income and expenses efficiently. Your privacy is important to us, and this Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.

Information We Collect

Expenser may collect the following types of information:

  • Account Identifiers: If you choose to create an account, we collect your email address and a unique user identifier (UID) through Firebase Authentication. This information is used solely for account management, authentication, and security purposes.
  • Financial Data: Expense and income data entered by the user, including transaction amounts, categories, dates, and notes. This financial data is stored locally on your device by default and is used solely for the purpose of providing expense tracking functionality to you.
  • Usage Data: Basic app usage data (only if analytics is enabled), including app launches, feature usage, and crash reports
  • Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers (for analytics and crash reporting purposes only)

Note: All financial data is stored locally on your device by default. If you choose to enable cloud backup or synchronization, your data may be stored on secure cloud servers. Financial data is used exclusively to provide expense tracking functionality and is not shared with third parties for marketing purposes.

How We Use Your Information

The collected information is used only to:

  • Account Management: Email addresses and user identifiers are used for account creation, authentication, and account security
  • Expense Tracking: Financial data (expenses, income, transactions) is used solely to provide expense tracking functionality and display your financial information within the app
  • App Functionality: Provide core expense tracking features and cloud synchronization (if enabled)
  • App Improvement: Improve app performance and user experience through analytics and crash reporting
  • Bug Fixes: Fix bugs and enhance features based on usage data

Financial Data Usage: Your financial data (expenses, income, transactions) is stored securely and used exclusively for the purpose of providing expense tracking functionality to you. We do not use your financial data for any other purpose, including advertising or marketing.

Data Storage and Retention

Local Storage: All financial data is stored securely on your device by default. This data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app.

Cloud Storage: If you choose to enable cloud backup or synchronization, your data may be stored on secure cloud servers. You can disable this feature at any time.

Data Retention: We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. If you delete your account or request data deletion, we will delete your data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes.

Data Sharing: We do not sell, rent, or share your personal financial data with third parties for their marketing purposes. We only share data as described in the "Third-Party Services" section below.

Third-Party Services

Expenser uses the following third-party services to provide functionality and improve the app:

  • Google Firebase Authentication: We use Firebase Authentication to manage user accounts and provide secure login functionality. Firebase Authentication collects and stores your email address and a unique user identifier (UID) for the purpose of account management and security. This data is stored securely on Firebase servers and is used solely for authentication purposes.
  • Google Firebase Analytics: We use Firebase Analytics for app usage analytics and crash reporting. Firebase Analytics may collect device information, app usage data, and crash logs. These third-party services have their own privacy policies governing the collection and use of your information. We encourage you to review their privacy policies to understand how they handle your data.

Data Sharing: We only share data with these third-party services as necessary to provide app functionality. We do not share your financial transaction data with these services. Email addresses and user identifiers are shared with Firebase Authentication only for account management purposes.

Data Security

We take reasonable security measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure. These measures include:

  • Encryption of data in transit and at rest (when using cloud services)
  • Secure authentication methods
  • Regular security assessments and updates
  • Access controls and authentication requirements

However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's Privacy

Expenser is not intended for children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verification of parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information from our servers.

Your Rights and Choices

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: You can access all your data directly within the app
  • Correction: You can edit or correct your data at any time through the app
  • Deletion: You can delete individual transactions or all your data at any time. To delete all data, you can uninstall the app or use the "Delete All Data" option in app settings. If you have a cloud account, you can delete your account through the app settings
  • Data Portability: You can export your data in various formats (CSV, JSON) through the app's export feature
  • Opt-Out: You can disable analytics and crash reporting in the app settings

Account Deletion and Data Deletion Requests

If you have created an account with Expenser, you can delete your account and all associated data in the following ways:

In-App Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time through the app settings. When you delete your account:

  • All your data associated with the account will be permanently deleted within 30 days
  • This includes your email address, user identifier, financial data, and all other account information
  • You will no longer be able to access your account or any data associated with it
  • This action cannot be undone

Web-Based Data Deletion Request

If you are unable to access the app or prefer to request account deletion via email, you can request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us directly:

  • Subject Line: Please include "Account Deletion Request" or "Data Deletion Request" in your email subject
  • Required Information: Please provide your registered email address associated with your Expenser account

Upon receiving your deletion request, we will:

  • Verify your identity and account ownership
  • Process your account deletion request within 30 days
  • Permanently delete all your account data, including email address, user identifier, financial data, and any other associated information
  • Send you a confirmation email once the deletion is complete

Note: If you have not created an account and are using the app in local-only mode, you can delete all your data by uninstalling the app or using the "Delete All Data" option in app settings.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
